40 Years in Art…

Maçka Art Gallery was established in 1976 by Rabia Çapa and Varlık Sadıkoğlu sisters. 
Since the first exhibition, Maçka Art Gallery focused on exhibiting the works of artists who are known for their critical and questioning standpoints in art as an indicator of the pioneering attitude that the gallery will continue in the following years. Maçka Art Gallery became the place where conceptual art met with the audience for the first time in Turkey. As an institution where art is thought, discussed, and learned, it has acquired a unique place in the Turkish contemporary art scene. Today's acknowledged artists, who were out of the mainstream art trends of the time, gained visibility in the art scene with their first exhibitions at Maçka Art Gallery. For 40 years, Maçka Art Gallery has brought art and audience together without compromising its vision and ideals, which are often incompatible with the Istanbul art scene at the time. Thus, created a profound archive. In 2016, Maçka Art Gallery shared its archive with Arter which included the reversal film of meetings of artists and audience discussions, clothing collection, photographs, and documents of 204 exhibitions opened in Turkey and abroad. 

Maçka Art Gallery is re-opening and beginning its 2nd period in 2021 under the management of Rabia Çapa's daughter Didem Çapa.
